Texas sets guideline support as a percentage of the paying parent's monthly net resources. Enter the numbers below for a quick estimate.
Income after income tax, Social Security/Medicare, union dues, and the child's health/dental premiums.
Estimated guideline support
$0 / mo
20% of net resources
Estimate only. Medical/dental support is additional, and multiple-family, low-income, or deviation rules can change the number. The court decides the actual amount.
The guideline percentages are 20% of net resources for one child, 25% for two, 30% for three, 35% for four, and at least 40% for five or more. “Net resources” is income after federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare, union dues, and the child's health and dental insurance premiums.
The percentages apply up to a statutory cap on monthly net resources — $11,700 since Sept. 1, 2025 (Tex. Fam. Code § 154.125) — and medical and dental support are ordered in addition to this amount. Multiple children in other households, a low-income schedule, and deviations for special needs can all change the result.
