A teenager getting a paycheck rarely changes the support obligation — but it can raise a few real questions.

The base obligation

A minor's part-time income doesn't reduce a parent's support obligation by itself. Treat the teen's earnings as the teen's resource for discretionary things — not as a substitute for support.

When it can matter

If the job substantially lowers household costs — especially childcare — a parent can request a modification with documented savings. Work shifts may also warrant an updated parenting schedule that still protects school and parenting time.

Emancipation and process

Full-time work, marriage, or military service can trigger emancipation; a part-time high-school job typically won't. In Texas, guideline support generally runs until the child turns 18 or graduates high school, whichever is later (Tex. Fam. Code §§ 154.001–154.002). As always, don't stop paying on your own — seek a formal modification with evidence.
